Circle K International is the world’s largest student-led collegiate service organization, with thousands of members on hundreds of campuses on five continents across the globe.
The collegiate branch of the Kiwanis International family, CKI is committed to developing leaders by offering unique service, leadership and fellowship opportunities that not only change the world but change members’ lives.
CKI members leave college with real-life networking and advocating skills AND service leadership.
CKI members are dedicated to childhood development, environmental justice, serving those who are food insecure or lack housing and mental health. We also partner with UNICEF USA to raise awareness about the need of clean drinking water worldwide.

Today, as the largest collegiate service organization, CKI boasts a membership of more than 13,000 collegians on nearly 550 campuses worldwide. CKI is a student-led organization with an International Board of Trustees elected by its membership each year. Embodied by its tenets of leadership, fellowship, and service at the club, district, and International levels, CKI continues to grow through service to the world’s campuses and communities.

Circle K International has grown tremendously over the past 40 years, sometimes in spirit, sometimes in members, and still other times in service to the community. Circle K International is continuing to move toward ever-increasing service and leadership development as well as providing fellowship and personal growth to the members. Though history provides a good foundation from which to view achievements and obstacles, Circle K International must connect the organization’s mission with tomorrow’s college students and tomorrow’s student organizations to envision the possibilities for the organization and realize its dream of creating a better world in which to live.

How it All Began

In 1936 the Kiwanis Club of Pullman, Washington, sponsored the Circle K House for young men in need of help at Washington State University. The Circle K House continued to be sponsored by the Pullman Kiwanis club after becoming affiliated as a Greek fraternity house.

Donald T. Forsythe, a Kiwanis International trustee, helped Circle K transform itself into a service oriented organization in 1947. The first Circle K club was chartered that year at Carthage College in Carthage, Illinois. (The college moved to its present-day location of Kenosha, Wisconsin, in 1962.)

In 1954, a meeting of 35 Circle K clubs was held to elect officers and seek recognition by Kiwanis International. The next year, Kiwanis International officially recognized Circle K International as a sponsored youth affiliate.

Today, Circle K International is the largest collegiate service organization dedicated to giving students the opportunity for service, leadership and fellowship.
